How do you keep your newborn / infant entertained? How do you get stuff done...?

Shelley Stevens: From your other question, your baby is only 7 weeks right??You don't worry that much about household things. You do them when baby naps, or get a sling or other soft carrier and *wear* her while you do things. And, just a suggestion, you need to rethink your expectations. She is only 7 weeks old. Of course she is only going to be "entertained for short periods of time with her swing, mobile, etc" What were you expecting??...Show more

Hope Lundmark: She should be having 3 naps a day with about two hours of awake time between each nap. The first two naps should last between 1.5-2 hours and the last nap between 45 min to an hour. At night she should be sleeping 12 hours a night. Once she turns 9-10 months you can give her 3 hours of awake time between each nap with only two 1.5-2 hour naps a day. And your baby should be getting 11.5 hours of sleep each night as well.Hope this helps!...Show more

Jacques Teri: Here's a good budget..$50 for 5 pri! zes for games$15 for supplies to play games$50 for food (go to costco)$0 for decorations (Just hang the baby's outfits on clothes pins and hang them everywhere)...Show more

Esteban Faggett: My daughter is the same way, the only thing that will keep her attention is baby Einstein's. I put it on for her while I cook dinner and she is content for about 30min. I will either put her in her bumbo chair or her bouncy seat. She LOVES the movies and they help babies learn. I know you can get them at walmart and target.

Shane Getler: my 13 month old used to sleep twice a day for about 3 hours but for about a month or so his cut that down to 1 nap a day for about 2-3 hours which he usually takes at about 11:30am

Tobie Oshea: and how long are they? Do you wake your baby or do they wake on their own? My daughter was napping like 3 times a day sometimes for three hours then she would not sleep longer then 2 hours a time at night. So now i try to limit her naps and ! wake her if she sleeps too long. Just want to know how much sh! e needs to sleep in the day......

Elaina Adolfson: Depends on the number of people. I would spend, roughly, ten bucks a head....this should cover invitations, decorations, food, games, prizes and favors.

Delora Struzzi: I would spend $100, for food, dec, everything unless it's going to be a lot of people.

Mack Ukich: Why dont you try the slings?

Raymon Fiene: she is 7 months old. She is a big girl, 26 inches and 20 pounds :)

Porfirio Gartland: a sling. That is the only way.

Anibal Katayama: Get a carrier and go about your day with her in the carrier.

Estrella Northway: My toddler won't manage to truly sit down up yet, so she's caught having me entertain her many of the day. She'll fortunately play in her exersaucer for a 0.5 hour if I sit down beside her and talk along with her. i'm going to place her in her rocker and enable her play with the toy bar - that is solid for roughly 10 minutes. She'll play in her playpen for a 0.5 hour! to 40 5 minutes in specific cases. i'm going to additionally placed her on the floor and in basic terms enable her roll around (heavily supervised). She'll do this for a protracted time. precise now peek-a-boo is a significant ingredient, yet she likes enjoying it by potential of the two me hiding in the back of something and popping out, or me dropping a blanket on her face and then pulling it away. she would manage to additionally play in her extreme chair for a on an identical time as though I placed plastic toys or blocks on the tray. She likes to knock over stacks of blocks precise now. She's additionally an Oprah fan - for some reason, gazing Oprah talk makes her snicker. while all else fails, we decide for a walk. in specific cases i'm going to deliver a bottle with me and we are going to stroll to the park and he or she'll consume there. She likes to lie on a blanket and study at bushes. She additionally loves being walked in the process the food market. it particu! larly is an worry-free thank you to kill an hour or 2....Show more

Hilde Heskett: It really depends. Make a banner/poster with baby shower on it, and hang it up. Put the rest of the money into neat little shower foods, like pink and blue cupcakes, or baby shaped ice cubes (seriously, they make these!). Like another person said, you won't really remeber the decorations, but a few would be ok. Put the money in the food! Handmade posters are great if you want to make them: they're cheap too! and great for scrapbooks.

Long Woltjer: My son (close to 5 months) was the same. He's still needy, but at least now he sleeps for longer periods of time and I get things done when he's down for his night-time sleep. When he was newborn till about 2 months I just let the house get messy. I tried doing chores when he was asleep, but I got too tired and cranky and everyone told me to just let things go and nap when he naps. My hubby didn't really do chores but when my friends came over and offered help, I'd get them to help clean dishes, hold ba! by while I did laundry, etc. Don't be afraid to ask visitors for help! I've also always been environmental-friendly but I did use paper plates and disposable wipes to clean stuff. Anything to cut down time and make chores easier. :) Good luck! I think its better to spend time with your baby and make sure she gets as much attention as she needs now. ...Show more

Darrel Stele:

Keven Drumgole: my son is almost 7 months and he sleeps a good 10 hours at night and normally takes cat naps right before he eats again and wakes up on his own sometimes he gets one good 2 hour nap in around 5 but any longer than that i wake him so he will sleep good at night

Freeman Rutkin: I did it when they were asleep... the house work will always be there you baby will only be so small for such a short time i reckon you should enjoy every second with them...I used to get as much done as i could while they had one nap, then the other naps i tried to catch up on some sleep. I also! have a wonderful husband who either helped witht the chores when he go! t home or looked after the baby while i did them.

Mel Crapo: It would be safe, but darn inconvenient. Done proporly, co-sleeping with your baby right next to you on your matress is very safe. It has many benefits for your baby. and makes night feeds, when breastfeeding, so simple. Our daughter has slept inbetween us from day 1, and she sleeps very well, we've never had any night troubles, and as i breastfeed, its so convenient having her right next to me, i dont need to move, she lays right beside me to feed. I reccomend it, it would be alot more comfortable than putting a big basket in bed with you, and your baby will love it....Show more

Alexandria Popik: Sally, I would think it is fine if you have a big enough bed and a firm mattress. Have you seen the snugglenest? I had one for the same reason as you and I found it to be wonderful.

Barrett Felicia: I wouldn't mind the baby sleeping in bed with me, but we have a very soft mattress. I'm afraid Baby w! ould smother that way. I'm really not worried about rolling over on the baby; I sleep very lightly.

Sylvie Snetting: im sure it would work fine. we just co sleep, no fancy beds or bassinets.

Chanda Wittwer: slings and other baby holders are wonderful. I would avoid the swing because you really shouldn't leave a baby alone in one for safety issues and they can become dependent on the rocking motion.

Ivan Velazquez: Sometimes I put my baby in a Snugli. She faces forward and watches everything I do. It keeps my hands free so that I am able to do my daily chores.

Hans Sachetti: sure...sounds safe to me.most of the time she fell asleep on me, however. you will totally sleep differently when you become a momma. you wont roll on her. we had our best nights w/ her in the crook of my arm, where she still occasionally ends up....but at 4.5 months she smacks me in the face instead of laying all quiet like.probably will get thumbs down...but I feel comforta! ble bringing her in bed w/ me...and NEVER thought I would till I became! a momma.....Show more

Mark Villifana: I don't see a need to spend more than $100.00.mostly for food & drinks, paper plates, cups, flatware and napkins.decorations are cute...but a waste of money. if you "must" decorate, pastel colored balloons are cheap and easily taped up for a quick way to decorate.games are corny...they made me uncomfortable at my first shower. (which was planned by others for me) i'm just not into the "guess how big my stomach is game" it was embarrassing. those types of games are usually a big hit w/the older crowd (grandma, and grandma's friends) but kinda silly for those of us that aren't THAT goo-goo about baby showers. I would suggest using most of your money for food, and of course most will bring a gift and then make sure the baby book is filled out w/all the day's happening....but other than that...it's a time to chat and enjoy the day w/each other....Show more

Freddy Shutler: We used an Arm's Reach Universal co-sleeper and I would! recommend that to ANYONE. My son is 8 months old and we still use it, only now it's in another room. It was so nice to have him right next to me.I still sometimes brought him into bed with me to nurse, but I could put him back if I wanted to.

Claudio Drullard: I have space issues at my house. I do have a crib, but I want the baby to sleep nearby for the first few months. I could get a bassinet, but it would be a bit in the way. And I have seen some cosleepers that fit in the bed with you, but reviews on Amazon weren't very good. So, I was wondering if a Moses basket in the middle of the bed would be a safe alternative.

Neely Youngblut: That should really be up to YOU and your budget.First of all, do your best to avoid having to pay to rent a place. If possible, have the shower at your house (or another friend/family member's). If that is out of the question, it is probable that you can throw the shower at one of the Fire Department or Rescue Squad build! ings around. (Mine was at a nearby Fire Department.) I have found, and! heard, that most will not make you pay any certain fee, but make a donation of your choice.Food = how many people are really all that concerned with food at the shower anyway? Keep it simple - hit WalMart or Target, etc and find good deals on things like Chex Mix, chips, mixed nuts, goldfish crackers - things that people snack on. Finger sandwiches or a crockpot of meatballs would be good. I had a vegetable tray and a fruit tray at mine.Games = play games that you won't have to buy anything (or much at all) for. For example, the game where everyone brings their baby pictures and people have to guess who it is, the one in which each player guesses how big the expectant mother's tummy is, or you can play pin the diaper on the baby - cut a ''baby'' and a ''diaper'' out of cardboard and do some simple coloring or construction paper work to it, and have the guests play as if it was pin the tail on the donkey. For prizes, check out orientaltrading.com, where you can find lo! ts of favors and whatnot for baby showers.Invitations = although it may take a little more time and effort, you could probably save some money by printing out your own invitations on your computer or at a local library. Before you mail them out - put aside the ones that you could simply hand to the guest in person, it will save some money on postage.Hope everything works out great!Congratulations to the mother!...Show more

Bryant Pillitteri: Deal with the crying. Try different things to occupy the baby. Learn to multi task (hold the baby and do things) also setting the swing or walker in the area you are doing your chores.

Esteban Faggett: how old is she? mine sleep about 4 hours at at time during the day and then sleep 6-7 at night. doctors say to wake them up every 4 during the day to eat

Olen Penhallurick: Host the shower at your house and put 100% of the money you plan to spend into really good food. No one likes to play baby shower games and no one! will remember the decorations. Your friend will appreciate the shower,! but I am sure if you have extra money to spend she too would prefer you spent it on her baby than games and prizes and decoration.

Cletus Crotts: Hold and love your baby... but don't let it boss you around. It's okay if you have to do the dishes and you let him/her cry for a while. You'll never get ANYTHING done if you don't let baby cry a little. Plus, it's healthy for baby. Try and put the baby in it's car seat so he/she can watch you work.

Hunter Osterberger: I have a bumbo and I basically bring him all over the house with me. He gets to be sitting up and watching me and I can talk to him and make silly faces while I clean. I can put him in his walker while I vacuum. He LOVES the vacuum and will just stare in awe the entire time I use it. If I am folding laundry I can lay him next to me on the ground and he will grab a towel and play with it or chew on it....then sometimes I just have to take a break and sit in the lazy boy and hold him for a while when he ! has had enough of mommy cleaning....Show more

Freddy Shutler: I would think so, we bought one of those co-sleepers for the middle of the bed, and though it worked great.

Armando Somes: a better swing, barnie and friends, baby carrier, go to toys r us, they have a lot of stuff
